Welcome to Bee Dee Bags: Who We Are and What We Do

We’re excited to welcome you to the official Bee Dee Bags blog! Whether you’ve been with us for years or are just discovering what we have to offer, we want to give you a closer look at who we are, what we do, and why we’re passionate about providing the best packaging solutions in Australia and New Zealand.

Who We Are

Bee Dee Bags was founded in 1974 by Bruce Dicker, shortly after he left the Air Force in Wagga Wagga. What began as a small venture quickly grew into a trusted name in the packaging industry. Today, we’re proud to be 100% Australian owned, with a customer base of over 17,000 businesses, including major retail chains, standalone stores, online businesses, and wholesalers.

In recent years, Bee Dee Bags has come under new management, with Cain Gawne now leading the company. Having been with the business for over 20 years, Cain has played a key role in our growth and continued success. Under his leadership, we’re more committed than ever to providing high-quality packaging solutions that support our customers and reflect the latest industry trends.

Throughout the decades, we’ve stayed true to our core values of quality, innovation, sustainability, and convenience, continuously striving to exceed our customers' expectations. Our dedicated in-house team brings creativity and expertise to every project, ensuring that whether it’s custom branding or sustainable solutions, we deliver products that stand out.

Sustainability: Our Commitment to a Cleaner Future

At Bee Dee Bags, sustainability is more than a goal - it’s embedded in everything we do. From our range of eco-friendly packaging solutions - including reusable and recycled bags, tissue paper, boxes, and B‑Online products - to our business practices, we aim to make responsible choices easy for our customers.

A cornerstone of this commitment is the Kahika Eco Hub, our custom-built sustainable distribution and storage centre located in Grong Grong, NSW. Designed and developed by our Managing Director, Cain Gawne, the Eco Hub represents the most ambitious sustainability project Bee Dee Bags has undertaken in the last decade.

The Kahika Eco Hub is a purpose-built facility combining logistics, warehousing, and environmental stewardship. Some key features include:

  • Eco-friendly design: The building maximises natural light, uses double-glazed windows, insulation, harvested roof water, and solar power with battery storage, operating completely off mains power.

  • Advanced warehouse efficiency: Electric, auto-track forklifts navigate tightly spaced racking, allowing us to stack pallets higher and reduce space usage, energy consumption, and product handling.

  • Streamlined operations: Incoming containers are palletised and stored with minimal handling, protecting products and reducing waste. Stock is “drip-fed” to branches efficiently, lowering transportation distances and carbon footprint.

  • Sustainable materials and practices: Responsibly sourced, industry-grade materials ensure longevity, while every stage of operations - from storage to distribution - is designed to minimise environmental impact.

While the Eco Hub is still being finalised, it already houses a significant portion of our stock and sets a new benchmark for sustainable warehousing in Australia. It’s a tangible example of how Bee Dee Bags is innovating to support both our customers and the planet, creating a more efficient, responsible, and future-ready supply chain.
